Have you heard of Kindness Stones? They all started with the Kindness Rocks Project in Cape Cod by Megan Murphy on the premise that “one message at just the right moment can change someone’s entire day, outlook, or life”.
All you need is a stone(s), a permanent marker and your imagination! We actually invested in some nice acrylic paint pens from amazon which makes the colours more vibrant as you can easily coat the whole face of the stone and then write on top of the paint. You can see this in the Brave, Pause, Glow examples above.
Write whatever you feel - a word, a motivational quote or something more specific. There is no right or wrong.
Once painted, these stones can be laid anywhere - in a park, on the beach, in the woods or placed on someone's wall. The paints or permanent marker will not wash off in the rain. Pop the stone somewhere so it will be found and make someone smile. The message might just turn that person's day around. They can then either pass it on to someone in need, re-hide it or keep it.
Creating these stones with children is a lovely way to instil kindness. It's a fun activity and it’s empowering for kids to realise that something as simple as a rock can spread happiness to those around us. This one below was made by my 6 year old boy.
We all need a pick me up some days so why not be the person to give someone else a reason to feel happy or grateful. If you are smiling when you make it then someone else will be smiling when they receive it and the kindness goes on and on.
Here at the Scamp studios we love doing random acts of kindness. You may have been lucky enough to receive a little gift from us in the post along with an order or this weekend you might just find one of our stones around our local area in the hope it makes someone else's day.
If you create these tag us on insta at xxxxxxxxxxx. We would love to see your creations.
Kindness costs nothing. Fact.
