About a year ago I heard a great recommendation for a play at the National Theatre called London Road. I tried to get tickets but as often is the way it was well and truly sold out. So, seeing it's return over the last few weeks I got myself a pair of tickets for this run. And, I am soooo glad I did. I've not seen theatre like this for ages. A musical, but not as you'd imagine. No Andrew Lloyd Webber numbers in this show - thankfully - but amazingly sung/chanted songs that told the story (faithfully reproduced in both wording and intonation from transcripts of interviews with residents of that road) of the aftermath of life on London Road, Ipswich when a murderer was found to have been living there.
To cap my evening out off I wandered onto the balcony at the top of the National to find this view of the city. London, you really can be beautiful
